Dear Nan,

by Kalika   May 11, 2005

Although we don’t live close,
And really don’t talk enough.
To me you still mean the most.
I know everything seems so tough.

I really do miss you.
I wish you would come and stay.
I love you, yes it’s true.
I just wish you weren’t so far away.

I know your mind is fading.
And I wonder if you know it too.
For you, everything seems so shady.
You don’t even remember those who love you.

I don’t want you to forget.
About all of us who care.
But in the back of your mind, I bet,
You’ll always know we’re there.

I can’t bare to loose you.
You’re the only one still alive.
When Pop died, it was hard, it’s true.
But you still managed to survive.

Please don’t leave me here.
You’re strong so please hold on.
Thinking of you brings me to tears.
I couldn’t bear it if you were gone.

This was an impressive work, Kalika. You did a marvelous job of poetically verbalizing the keenly agonizing feelings brought on by the awareness that a loved elder is facing his/her sunset years.

That was really beautiful and really sad at the same time. I wish I was closer to my grandma. Just try and cherish every single moment with her. Take care.
