Mistreated and Homeless

by Sarah Ann   Jun 5, 2005

A man walks, his clothes all torn
He looks at me, his face is worn
His eyes speak justice, all he needs
Just some food for him to feed

There is nothing in life he demands
Except a smile or a helping hand
He walks along a bustling crowd
Cold and hungry he shouts aloud

“Please someone help me, be kind
I need some food if you don’t mind
I been walking around here all day
I need a nice, warm place to stay”

But his voice echoes in his head
As people rush to their warm beds
Wondering what nasty twist of fate
Led this man into this horrible state

Looking out of their eyes in despair
Do they even listen, do they even care
Maybe he has children or a tired wife
Wishing to return to his previous life

We never ask him, ignoring his voice
We never listen or give him the choice
Just assuming that he is as he passes by
Another homeless and unlucky guy

He settles down for another cold night
A man with no heart, only in our sight
And all he wants from me and you
Is to be treated like a human being too

This poem was amazing, dear! It's really good, and so true. I've always wanted to help someone homeless. But I just can't. :(
Anyway, good job on the poem and keep writing!
