Name On The Stone

The tears slide down her cheeks,
As she places the rose on the grave
She wondered how many weeks
Their fight had last.
How she had said hate instead of love,
How she would never say I'm sorry.

She looked at the name on the stone,
The name on the stone stared back,
Accusing her of not being there
When she was needed most.

All the months in the hospital
Looking so weak in her bed
Her mother said i'd rather be dead
This pain is too much I need to leave
She went to her mother and held her hand
Please you can't die
I need you to stay you can't go this way
Her mother looked up, face full of anguish as she started to slip away,
The girl ran out and missed her mother's last words,
Which were I love you.

The memory was too much,
The girl turned away.
Her mother had died that day
Without her saying good-bye
Without saying I'm sorry for not being there.

She turned back to the stone,
With her mothers name on it.
She felt fresh tears welling in her eyes,
She knelt beside the grave,
Pressed her face to the stone
And whispered I'm sorry.
