A Perfect Night

A perfect night together
With just you and me
Driving to the movies
Through darkness we could see.

A little drop of rain
And thunder in the sky
A flashing scene of lightning
From the corner of my eye.

The rain is falling harder
As my heart skips a beat
This storm is growing stronger
It's hard to see the street.

I can tell you're getting worried
As you let up on the gas
"Maybe we should go back,
And wait for this storm to pass."

But my words you could not here
From the thunder and the rain
Then all at once I hear a scream
And feel a hurtful pain.

My body's being crushed
By an oncoming car
Soon I'm thrown against the ground
Wondering where you are.

I look around in fear
But nothing can be seen
I try hard not to cry
Hoping this is all just a dream.

"Baby, are you alright?"
I barely hear you say
I look for you in sight
But my vision starts to sway.

I hear sirens in the distance
And the news reporter crew
You grab my hand and hold it tight
Then say, "We'll make it through."

But the ambulance is taking me
And splitting us apart
I yell out with the strength I have
"I love you with all my heart!"

Tears are rolling down my cheek
I think I'm going to die
I told you that I love you
But I forgot to say goodbye.

Days later from the accident
I awake in my hospital bed
The nurse sits down slowly
And tells me that you're dead.

My heart was torn to pieces
And it will be from now on
I can't believe I'm left alone
I can't believe you're gone.

A year after your unfortunate death
I stand upon your grave
Holding back my painful tears
Just trying to be brave.

I wish that you were still here
Our love we had was true
Although that night could've been perfect
If I had died with you.
