The War

There's a war going on, not one in a country or state
It's a war within myself...they've already taken the gate
I tell myself to wait it out, but it's starting to get worse
It haunts me like a shadow, follows me like a curse

This "fairy tale" has a bleary ending
My wounds aren't going away, they aren't even mending
Tears stream down my face as my body battles it out
I can't seem to scream, I can't even shout

The pounding in my head is like the sound of a beating drum
I don't want to think about what's next, what's going to come
I begin to mumble, I'm seeing double of things around me
Soon everything will be black, I won't be able to see

My body is starting to give in
The cancer is winning, my future looks dim
I close my eyes, I begin to see a light
I smile because I know, God is taking me this night
