Goodnight Prejudice

by DMG   Jul 1, 2005

Little child, go to sleep,
Don't let the light keep you awake.
Sleep before the sun does rise,
While we erase those we forsake.

Tell me a story first, father,
To fill my dreams while I do sleep.
Tell me a story of perfection,
Disallow my dreams to weep.

Okay child, rest your head,
Here is the story I will tell,
A story of our blessed Lord,
And our duties to him as well.

It all began in seven days:
God created man and Earth.
In Eden, a paradise,
God gave man its first birth.

Life was blissful with great peace,
But then Satan ruined all.
Upon mankind he unleashed beings,
Colored devils broke Eden's wall.

The peaceful land was gone and lost,
And God asked man to try and fix,
So now today outside each house
We burn, for God, a crucifix.

My child, you will do the same
When older you do grow,
You will hurt, in God's name,
Every devil you do know.

Those colored beings took our peace
And have turned good to bad to worse,
But son, one day with your help
We will be saved from this curse.

Now close your eyes and go to sleep,
And block the light that shines outside.
Remember son, with every flame
We grow larger with great pride.

Goodnight father, and sleep I will,
But first I have something to ask,
Those colored folk that you speak of,
Are they not us behind a mask?

~Prejudices can be overcome as long as the younger generations put forth an effort. With the realization that all people, regardless of ethnicity and religion, are solely just that, people, prejudices can be lost with time. For this I hope...~
