The Sands of Time: Pt. III

by Dani Ward   Jul 1, 2005

Once again they are calling
speaking of wonderful things
another person caught in the trap
while her voice yet sings
she knows not of the danger
of the pain that will ensue
forever locked in the walls
of a sea that is not blue
a girl who sat for a spell
taking only her mind
went to the Sands of Time
leaving her problems behind
the wonderful allure of them
how beautiful they did seem
things long ago forgotten
it was like a grand dream
she saw things unknown
to the rest of mankind
beautiful beasts and creatures
things no one could find
she walked for an eternity
yet it was not a minute
and still she did walk on
all caught up in it
she saw a man after a time
and he warned her so
leave now or you never will
I beg of you to go
but she did not listen
no she walked away
in this wonderful place
she forever wanted to stay
she wandered on some more
but his words lingered too
could what he said be real
it just couldn’t be true
so she ran to find him, ask what he meant
but he was nowhere to be seen
she ran on and on forever
or so it did seem
finally she saw him sitting
beside what she couldn’t believe
next to a beautiful red dragon
unless her eyes deceived
she ran to him and gasped
what did you mean
I must know what it is
nothing is as it seems
he said I’m sorry to say
but it is now too late
you’re trapped here with us
this is forever your fate
she stood shocked and still
and said not a word
then she screamed to him
that is totally absurd
believe what you will
was his calm reply
but try to go back
and there’s no way you will deny
the truth is what I have spoken
and you are here forever
sad to say but it is true
but we’ll be going back never
she tried so hard to leave
to go back from where she came
but something wouldn’t let her
and she knew this was no game
she fell down onto her knees
and sobbed into his shoulder
what had happened to her
she wondered as she got colder
he explained the sad story that was his own
how he had once been so alive
and then he’d found the Sands of Time
and taken a critical dive
he’d left the world to escape his pain
and he’d found a girl here long ago
but in real life he never could
so he came back here to escape his woe
for so very long he has been
a prisoner of this land
and he has come to know it all
better than the back of his hand
there’s no use for crying now
it won’t get you anywhere
but maybe we could be friends
I’ll show you that I care
so she told him of her painful life
and her escape to the Sands
how once she’d lived in pain and tears
and so he took her hands
now you and I are together
for all of eternity
now our time has finally come
to have love and be happy
and so the two who were
stuck in the Sands of Time
lived on unbeknownst
to all of mankind
they have an eternal bliss
a wonderful serenity
forever they will be together
loving for eternity

Very interesting poem... SOunds more of like a fairy tale story, but the flow is really great (has nothing to do with commas, mind you). It's very rare to find a story-like poem on here anymore.

These poems are so creative I really like them. They remind me of "The Lady of Shallot", for some reason. Anyway keep writing I love reading your work.
