You Leave Your Mark

I watch you walking away from me
Mourning your lost pride
And all I can do is watch you leave
Heart closed, eyes open wide

You take with you, the pieces of me
That broke that time before
And now you are so high on you
I find I’m on the floor

So take that tumultuous essence of yours
Once expired so long ago
I will perish by my own flame
Sooner than you know

Heels of shoes and backs of heads
I’ve seen it all before
Justice has no presence here
It’s my unwritten law

And like those laws that time forgot
Once written upon my hand
I find these webbed emotions are too tangled
For even you, to understand

You were the one that held my world
For you knew me the best
One moment was perfect; it’s just too bad,
You left like all the rest

I promise I will not cry for you
Even as tears fill in my eyes
In spirit you left so long ago
But I was convinced by your cold lies

So I watch you walk away from me
Whilst I hold my fractured heart
Because no matter how hard I try to heal
I know you’ll leave your mark
