Ironic Loss

by Thomas Key   Jul 17, 2005

Living in this world,
just trying to get by,
He saw so many people go down,
He saw so much end,

Lives lost,
Love ending,
Planes going down,
So much ending.

He was at the dark side of life,
Hiding in the shadows,
of what may have used to be,
the very best life of all,

His life was lost,
His love ended,
the plane went down,
So much ended.

The one he loved,
the one he wanted,
to spend all his life with,
to spend all his days with,

Her life was lost,
our love ended,
when her plane went down
with no survivors,
What kind of way is this to end?

He spent several days locked in my home,
crying and feeling guilty for putting her on that plane,
for making them end our love,
for not being with her when that plane went down.
He would have not been a survivor.
He would have much preferred it.

He put the gun to his head,
leveling it at his temple,
tears rolling down his cheeks,
he cocked the gun,
loading the bullet in,
he thought of his life,
so much to end,
so little left.

He saw her,
his fiance,
getting onto the plane,
and then he saw the news on the local channels,
he saw the plane go down in his head...
and he pulled the trigger.

Out of the 135 people on the plane,
there were five survivors,
a divorced man of 40,
a teacher,
a flight attendant,
a small baby boy,
and a now widowed woman,
who was on her way home,
when she saw the flashing lights,
when she saw her fiance being carried away,
and grabbed a gun,
and she pointed it,
and she screamed....
And fired.
