Standing Still

by Dark Kitten   Jul 23, 2005

Standing still,
My world caves in all around,
As I fall to my knees,
Making little or no sound,

The hum of a graceful song,
Loud and intense in my head,
The angels’ words of wisdom,
Drowning out the fear and dread,

The mountain I sense long past knew,
Surrounding me in a cage,
Like I was and still am on display,
The rocks and walls watch me on stage,

How grateful am I now that I know,
Now that I have love,
Tis better to have experienced this feel,
Then to never have caught this brilliant dove,

Cherish these few days,
With the love of my own life,
Too bad I was not able,
To become that of his wife,

Thinking here in the lonesome dark,
The words coming to me now,
I will not allow this prison,
To murder me as I walk and prow,

Stone by stone I throw them,
As they pile up on the other side,
I am not gaining any hope,
This very space is not that wide,

Standing still and rethinking all my options,
I soon gave up and started to cry,
No one will ever find me,
As I prepare to die,

My weary eyes closing shut,
As tears run down my face,
Not at all noticing that sign,
The little bit of light in a small spot of space,

I put my ear upon the hole,
To see if I could hear,
As voices low and panicky,
Graciously accompany near,

I yelled I screamed all I could stand,
My lungs getting very tired,
As familiar faces raised their guns,
Aimed, pulled the trigger, and fired,

Rocks went dashing left and right,
Forming a large hole,
As I stood up and walked beneath it,
When entered a large pole,

I grabbed the pole,
They pulled me up,
Both giving hugs and kisses,
“I thought I lost you though I am so glad…..you are such a brave little pup”

Laughing at him but before I could reprimand,
He leaped down upon one knee,
Golden light shining so bright,
I knew exactly what he was going to ask me.

The ending to this poem was definitely the best part - I loved it. Once again I thought the flow was really good, too. Nice work.

I really like the ending, so romantic. =)

"The hum of a graceful song,
Loud and intense in my head,
    The angels’ words of wisdom,
Drowning out the fear and dread,"

For some reason this was my favourite stanza.

Okay i dont exactly get this...how did you get in the cage? unless the cave was like depression and he saved you from it thats understandable i guess and in that case its a very cool poem and if it is meant to a metaphor thats very interesting and creative
