Loved and Lost

What trick of fate did this to me?
For fate is evil if this is how I love.

Must I love one that loves another?
For this pain I can not bare.

For to love one that loves another
Is not to love but is to lose.

My heart goes out to those in this situation
For I have loved and lost.
