Awaiting The Signal

by Fighter (Ariane L.)   Aug 26, 2005

On the edge of the platform, I wait for the signal.
Although the stadium is buzzing with noise,
Stuck in my world, I hear only but utter silence.
My head bowed low, I stare only at my feet.

Seconds passing seem like hours, waiting.
Awaiting the signal, I stay frozen in position.
In my zone, I think only but about what is ahead.
Concentrating on the race, encouraging myself.

As the gun shot is heard, I dive from the platform.
The water seperates as I enter, clearing my way.
My arms rip through the water as I continue ahead.
Pushing my body to it's limit, I touch the wall.

The crowd roars as I look at the results.
I see only but what I already know.
Climbing onto the gold medal podium that night:
I am the girl smiling to the crowd,
Seemingly not a worry in her mind.
