Funerals

by my_little_secret   Sep 4, 2005

Funerals are steeped in tradition;
Hymns and words of prayer for those no longer there,
But
Is it just me that the words don't help?
The predictable rhyming schemes of unknown songs...
I find it just prolongs the agony.

Why try in vain to pick up the swing
Of tunes that just don't mean a thing,
Of this poor shepherd and that poor king?
At mine, I want the words to mean something.
To touch the hearts of those who cared,
Of those with whom my life was shared.
I want mine to mean something.
