Behind Metal Bars

by Fighter (Ariane L.)   Sep 5, 2005

He enters the restricted gates, his identity stripped.
The iron doors close behind him, trapped for years to come.
He follows the guard to his assigned cell.
The inmates stare at him, new bate to their eyes.

No longer feeling safe, he finds refuge in his cage.
Surrounded by his wall of silence, prisoner within himself.
Incapable of facing the danger, captured by fear.
Constantly alert, he stays within his cell, alone.

Lost in thought, scenes flood his memory, vivid.
Remembering the horrid night he regretfully witnessed.
Remembering the sound of the gunshot in the night.
Her motionless body, greated by death's embrace.

His scream echoes through the prison, heart broken.
Silent prayers escape his lips, his pleas unheard.
Condemned to live his life trapped behind metal bars,
Convicted for a crime he did not commit, innocent.
