13 To young to die

by Lu   Sep 7, 2005

You were only a little girl
thirteen years or so
when a monster of a man
turned into your worst foe

You were out late at night
walking the streets with a friend
when a trustful looking man
made your life come to an end

He said he would take you for a drive
bring you back in a bit
he took you to his house
and offered you a hit

You thought it would do no harm
so you tried a little more
a few minutes later
you ended up on the floor

He raped you and he beat you
then asked his friends to join
said you could go home now
with the toss of a coin

But little did anyone know
that these drugs were just to much
for when your friend tried to wake you
you were cold to her touch

Your friends and family morned you
I know cause I was one of them
and in your grand-pa's eyes
you were a little gem

They declared to make this man
spend life alone in jail
and a hundred thousand dollars
was the amount of his bail

After the trial had ended
and a bitter and angry strife
he was delivered his verdict
"you are now sentenced" to life

Although your life has ended
you will be missed every day
but for this monster of a man
the rest of his life he"ll pay

I hope his time in prison
is both miserable and cruel
for he took away from our family
a very precious jewel.

Author's note : This poem is a true story about a 13 year old cousin of mine who was picked up by a man .Was then taken to his house and drugged . When she was unconscious she was raped by this man and 2 of his friends . Her friend tried to wake her the next morning but she was already dead . This was not this man's first offense . And I hope with all my heart he rotes in jail .

This was... fantastic, sad, tear jerking, everything a good poem should be.
This story has never happened to me, nor do I know anyone who it as happened to, but I am still deeply truely sorry.
At the ending of the poem, with your authors note, it reminded me of a play I once did. "The Laramie Project"
If you haven't heard of it, it is a play based on the true story of Matthew Shepard, a gay kid beaten to death. There are tons more details, but I won't get into them.
Anyways, this is an exerpt from what Matthews father said to one of the killers during trial:

''I wouId Iike nothing better than to see you die, Mr. McKinney. However, this is the time to begin the heaIing process. To show mercy to someone who refused to show any mercy. Mr. McKinney, I am going to grant you Iife, as hard as it is to do so, because of Matthew. Every time you ceIebrate Christmas, a birthday, the Fourth of JuIy, remember that Matt isn't. Every time you wake up in your prison cell remember you had the opportunity and the abiIity to stop your actions that night. You robbed me of something very precious and I wiII never forgive you for that. Mr. McKinney, I give you Iife in the memory of someone who no longer lives. May you have a Iong Iife, and may you thank Matthew every day for it.''

This poem of yours reminded me of that. And I really don't even know what to say.

I have cried more reading your sad two poems then I have cried in over six months. This poem is full of raw powerful emtion. You left nothing to my imagination, it's all in your words. I am sorry that this happened. It's very sad when you loose someone you love, but it's even sadder when that someone is so young and innocent. I have always been a big fan of yours because you have a special way with words. I am adding this poem to my favorite poem list so that I can show it to my friends. Keep up the excellent writing, I am looking forward to reading more.
