Wandering thoughts

by Cory Mastrandrea   Sep 20, 2005

I'm sitting through another lecture
from a teacher to his class
after they did poorly on his test.
The topic: Studying.
Just what I want to listen to after getting an "A."
I'm here listening to a lecture on studying
What job asks you to go home and study?
Probably lots I just don't know of any.
My mind wanders to better things,
more important things I would like to be doing like spending time with my family.
I keep thinking about my 5 year old brother
and his old people comment made over the weekend.
Then thoughts jump to mom and everything she does to keep things going.
My youngest sister Molly is suppose to be selling earrings at school today. I hope she makes plenty of money.
I wonder if that pestering teacher is picking on my younger brother Sawyer yet, and what for.
Up in Storrs Marc has all his crazy labs. I hope his classes are going better than this one.
There is still more than half an hour left of class
and I'm missing the most important things of my life.

Oh, I really enjoyed it. I disregarded punctuation first time I read it, had to revisit it because without it, this poem makes little sense.
All of us have times in class where our thoughts wander- if something seems unimportant to us, then why should we bother listening? I seem to do it all the time in many classes, sometimes teachers can be so repeatitive ;-).
A free topic, a very interesting idea. I much enjoyed it!

I really admire the depth in which you write. It's always the most normal setting but you delve into such intense thoughts. Well done~Holly
