Appearing Free

by Jacklyn   Sep 23, 2005

Deodorant overpowered
no opponent for my odors
My armpits a bush of thorns
Beware of the nasty smells.

My legs resemble men's
unsaved and growing thick
I've forgotten what it's like
of freshly cleaned smooth legs.

Dirt resting beneath my nail
which are unpainted and un-filed
chewed to raw and tender skin
with hang nails and blood again

My hair un-brushed or clean
A splash of water; all it needs
frizzy strands run wild and free.
No style or products have a use.

No blush or need of lip-gloss
Given up mascara and cover-up
Waste of time to meet the standards
Show off the face, which I was gifted.

I don't meet the requirements
of a media beauty to society
Attracting none with appearance,
holding beauty only where it's needed.

I love poetry like this. Not knowing where the writer is going until you get to the last stanza, it always makes for an exciting read.
The message is a great one and the depth in which it is written really bring's that home! Keep it up~Holly
