Family Heirlooms

by Ann Stareyes   Nov 2, 2005

Heirlooms that's been passed down
I treasure so much
They were personally gave to me
Before my ancestors left this earth.

Before my Papa died
Many years ago
He gave me his Mom's old Peddle sewing machine
That he cherished so.

He told me many stories
How she'd sit hours at a time
Sewing for her children
How cloth then was only a dime.

Papa said She was truly gifted
Could make anything at all
So many memories
To this day he could still recall.

This makes this heirloom more precious
Because Papa gave it to me
He knew I would cherish it
And where it would always be.

This old sewing machine I'll forever cherish
Until my dying day
Then all I ask of my children
Please cherish it the same way.

I think we all wonder if children will treasure heirlooms as much we, and fear they won't.

My aunt has her great great grandmother's peddle sewing machine. This really made me think of all the stories my grandma used to tell me!
