Forever Changed

by Bill Turner   Nov 2, 2005

Noise, disenchanted voices in the night
Screams and pleas for mercy that will not come
The usual sounds on a typical night
Asking for pity new fish can be so dumb

A lot can happen to someone in this hell
Nothing comes as a surprise
When you are locked in an eight man cell
In the morning you see it in their eyes

People are forever changed by this place
The horrors that happen within these bars
They get that hard look on their face
Hiding the deep emotional scars

You do what you must to survive
Does not matter which side of the bars you are on
Making it each day, alive
Whether you are a guard or con

Never give an inch
Do not let them think
You cannot flinch
Do not dare blink

Violence comes in the blink of an eye
You do what you must
Fourteen inch scar on my right thigh
There is no one I completely trust

Pressure and intimidation
That is how you run it in here
Just like a great nation
You must make the others have fear

Did you write this poem for the Delaware incident Bob was babbling on about?

Anyway, very nicely done, especially the last stanza.

I verily enjoyed this poem Bill. I must say this touched in ways that few literary pieces have, and I am indeed awed by the way you handle diction and structure to convey meaning. Very well done on an excellent work of art!
