The Fear of Love

Love can scary
if you have loved
before and it didn't
work out.

Love can be mistaken
for infatuation
even though it
might feel like love.

Many people say that love
starts out like friendship
and over much sharing
can evolve into love.

Love is like a seed
that needs time
and nurturing
to grow into a flower.

Many people have written
what they think love is
but who has ever figured
it out and proved it.

Sometimes we take shortcuts
because we are concerned
with time
only to get lost on the road.

Love can't be forced
and it can't be guaranteed
but there is always
the possibility for love.

If you have ever been hurt
you can be love shy.
And one can be afraid
to love because of trust.

Even the words, "I love you",
can sometimes seem empty
because the other questions
what you see as love.

Love can be worth the effort
if you can be patient
and tolerate another's need
for honesty and belief.

Love is a beautiful thing
but two must give to it.
Love is like poetry
because it must flow.
