Random Thoughts of a Sleep-Deprived Mind

by Aidyn   Nov 4, 2005

You think and you talk
But are those necessarily at the same times?
Do people stop to consider
What they have and want?
And what they need?
Do people ever think about what they need??
You walk
And you consider
And you think of love
And you never notice the jealousy
Until it's cliched and too late
You never heard the silencer
Turn the shot into a whisper
The shot of whiskey
That you felt slide down your throat
In the back of your mind
Where thinking and doing are not always the same
Where feelings are not always considered.
Where logic is a painful castaway
Tell me what an outcast is.
Enlighten me.
Trust me, I won't be sad.
This relationship wasn't going anywhere anyways.
It's okay to open your heart to me.
When did it all start?
As a psychiatrist
I can help your hurts
When you fell off the swings
You hurt your back
And you mother came with
Antiseptic and bandaids
Like they use in hospitals.
When the IV runs out, what happens?
Is it all part of life?
Do you believe in an afterlife?
Up there somewhere
Where astronauts go
To sleep
With a pillow and a blanket
Turning on spin cycle
With extra detergent
And fabric softener
To make them more comfortable
Even though you know they'll always be awkward.
They always had trouble fitting in.
They could never be one with the crowd.
Screaming at a rock concert.
Composing a concerto.
With a pen and paper
On which school notes are strewn
In the blue ink of a leaky ballpoint pen.
That you bought from a stationary store
Three months ago
When it was spring
And you still cared about what it was exactly you wrote on the paper
Made from wood
Chosen selectively
So as not to harm the environment
As awkward as it may already be.
