Where can I go?

by Once an Angel   Nov 29, 2005

Where can I go,
when I want to spread wings and fly away.
Where can I hide,
when I want to curl up and fade away.

I am alone, kneeling me my tears,
being haunted by my darkest fears.
Here I lay, chained to these icy walls,
Hidden here, where sunrise calls.

My voice is held inside my head,
my empty scream, echoes to the dead,
There is a distant light outside my gaze
But shadows change light to misty haze.

I can't get free from this prison floor,
chains trip me as I crawl to the door.
Chains I assembled, these links of stone,
binding me downward, forever alone.

Where can I turn,
when I am frozen inside my dark place.
Where can I look,
When I long to see, the light of your face.

This once I pray,
for the light of day.
Lying here chained,
But never found.

I am loving this, which sounds odd giving the content but I think you have worded it so well and made it a little rhythm that I couldn't help it.

Powerful poem, really representing that loneliness and pain, and feeling so lost and hopeless in the world. Your wording is really great, using words like prison floor, and chains, and empty screams. Each little bit just emphasises that despair you feel.
