SHOPPING FOR A NEW PERSPECTIVE

by Gary Jurechka   Dec 13, 2005

Passing through the
back alley network of secrecy,
dryer exhausts exhale flowery fabric freshness,
illuminated house windows are
aquariums of domestication,
and I swore I'd never get caught up
in the suffocating stagnation of
bland days and forgettable nights,
not living but merely existing,
but somehow I did,
something was lost somewhere.

Change is the movement of life,
the pulse of the moment,
today is tomorrow's beginning-
don't let each day fade to a lost yesterday.
It is easy to go on as always
rather than make the effort to change,
easier to dream than to do,
but change is always possible,
it can save your life,
but you never know if you never try,
it's always up to you.

We all want to live our own lives,
we all want to live the best we can.

All I know is that remaining stationary
in comatose routines,
each day you die a little more,
spiraling into blind resignation and emptiness,
feeling like something is missing,
until you forget that things can be any other way.

And here I am at the mall,
spending money I don't have
on things I don't need.

Funny how I stumble on poems of yours at the perfect time. I am stagnating, I know it ... but yet I still procrastinate. Perhaps this is the kick in the butt I need. Excellent write!
