Remembering the Reason

by Jacklyn   Dec 16, 2005

He enters nervous and shaken
fighting back a strong addiction
Grabs a chair, sits and listens
introducing names around the circle

Abusing drugs and an alcoholic
just released from his rehab
Trying to win her heart back
fighting to be a good parent

Though he hasn't seen her in ages
He remembers her sweet little face
the one so filled with innocence
His simple, pure motivation

Thought the fight is consistent
to want to drink and use again
He remembers why he's changing
for the responsibly he never had

He remembers her face in details
every time he wants to break
She smiles like her mother
as he sits there and remains

a room of addicts on New Years eve
with motivation to be forever clean
Making promises that most will break
but he’s determined to reach his peace

For a brand new year brings new hope
given to his family and for himself
Only if he remains in this room to heal
and allows himself to let pain go
