CHANGES

by Lisa Reed   Dec 28, 2003

Only just a baby,
I held you in my arms,
Looking down upon your face,
You were heavens charm.

Your beauty knew no end,
The older you became,
Growing up from childhood,
Still my baby you remained.

I watched over you as mother’s do,
Though protective I could be,
You weren’t aware of danger,
Not everyone are angels you see.

My daughter you’re a women now,
Your life you may now choose,
Just always do remember,
I’ll still be watching you.

You stand upon the alter,
With Your husband now to be,
My child you look so happy,
I hold a mother’s glee.

The years they have passed on now,
You have children of your own,
A family just like I did,
You’ve made your happy home.

At least that’s what I thought it was,
Till you arrived upon my door,
Your legs they couldn’t hold you,
You said “mum I cant take it anymore”.

You fell in desperation,
I barely stopped the fall,
Held you in my arms so tight,
And said “please tell me all”.

You said how he had beat you,
How he’d torn your world in two,
How come you’d never told me ?
How he’d brutally battered you.

You said “I’ve made a life now,
But mum I cant go on,
I wanted so to end it,
Why did it go wrong”,

No reply that I could give you,
Could explain what he had done,
I felt so bloody helpless,
Even though I was your mum.

Its okay we will get through it,
My girl you just be strong,
Togeather we can do it,
Trust me nothing will go wrong.

And from that night my words kept true,
Your worries I swept away,
I see you growing stronger now,
I watch it everyday.

I gave you strength and courage,
To do what you should do,
He no longer has the power,
Or the chance to throttle you.

A bed that he may lie on,
And four walls without a view,
You see he lives in hell now,
For what he’d done to you.

Your poem hasn't got a full 5/5 from all the votes which is surprising. I thought it was well written and equally well thought out. Got my 5 anyway, K
