August the third

by Cassie Marie   Dec 23, 2005

It was August the third
the night this occurred
the news banners flashed:
alcohol involved in fatal crash

The boy lay helpless in bed
looking cold as ice, almost dead
his whole body paralyzed
unconscious as family silently cries

Wishing that again he could walk
open his eyes, at least talk
he was hit by a drunk man
there was a red light, which he ran

"dont drink tonight" his parents said
he was offered a beer; but had a water instead
he was a good student, straight A's in fact
his birthday was soon, four days to be exact

the boys mother sits alone
her misery is shown
her son she is missing
in a daze reminiscing

he was placed in ICU
with machines running through
he had tubes in his nose
and things clipped to his toes

that was a year ago today
the day that boy passed away
if that man didn't drink and drive
they might still be alive
