You Can Change

by Silence   Jan 1, 2006

Make a tiny slit in your flesh,
tear it open while it's still fresh,
that's what you do,
I know, because I do too,
you cut yourself, you thought no one cared,
you want them to think you're tough but you're really scared,
I know about every tear you've cried,
I know about every fear you have inside,
no one notices you, your parents don't remember your name,
you feel like your losing at the life game,
you haven't slept at home in years,
last time you tried, you dad kicked you out because he had too many beers,
you went into rehab when you were five,
it's truly a miracle that you're still alive,
yet whenever anyone asks if you're alright,
you feign a smile that's way too bright,
you live a secret life,
your only friend is your knife,
Why do you keep pretending?
without help you're not going to have a happy ending,
the only place she feel welcome is at school,
you've been kicked out of everywhere else and you think you're a fool,
kicked out just because of the way you look,
but it's not your fault, they don't know how you've been shook,
you tried drugs, you taught yourself how to smoke,
you used to do that, so now you're broke,
you have poor grades, you don't think you're smart,
you want to tell everything, but you don't know where to start,
you want to change but you don't think you can,
you want to be successful, but you don't know how,
you need to show the world that you have a voice,
you need to show the world that you have made a better choice,
take control of your life,
that means just forget about your knife,
heal the scars,
return the beers you stole from bars,
heal the burns, fix the cuts,
understand the wrongness of your mistakes and throw out the cigarette butts,
learn to love, learn to live,
laugh again, remember how to forgive,
remind yourself that you are strong,
because it's something that you should have known all along.
