Hiding Heartbreak

by Nici   Jan 7, 2006

I could hide who I am
Like masking the colours of a rainbow
Pretend that all is black and white
Printed with a guide to read my soul

I could hide who I am
Create a front to face the world in
Armed with a fake and cheery smile
To camouflage my heartbreak

I could hide who I am
Agree with everyone's opinions
Stay quiet and obedient
Never speaking my true thoughts

I could hide who I am
Beneath layers of protection
A mirage of makeup,
All the latest clothes

I could hide who I am
Change all my likes and dislikes
My favourite chocolate bar
And food choice for dinner

or

I could stay myself
Be accepted for who I am
Or rejected for my weird habits
Either way still ME!

(I think I'll chose the later)

*This one still seems unfinished to me, not sure about the ending yet. Not sure about the category either.

An interesting read. First two stanzas I feel are the strongest, although the poem as a whole is very well written. I somewhat agree the ending thought could be expanded on. But that's up to you, it still reads well as it is. Thanks for sharing.
