Battered Wings

by Kim   Jan 7, 2006

I thought you were my angel
Here to save me from all things
But I look and all I see
Is a child with battered wings

I thought your shining eyes were bright
With laughter for me to share
But drowning in those liquid pools
All I find are tears

I thought you were my guiding light
My love, strong and true
But as we hold each other now
I find I'm the strength for you

I thought you were going to save me from
This world of pain and sorrow
But now I've come to know you better
And you're barely living for tomorrow

So, my angel, frayed and worn
I'll keep you safe tonight
When reality comes again
I'll shelter you from the light

Maybe some day you'll become
The angel I've always known
But I fear when you find your wings
You'll leave me here alone

That's a really sad poem Kim. Definitely can feel the emotions in this one. The feeling of loneliness seeps in. A very nice write.
