Chance

by Bill Turner   Jan 16, 2006

Lying on the floor, tears in your eyes...
Calling out to you, trying to stand...
Your legs have always carried you with grace
Catching the Frisbee or the ball
Today they failed you again and again...
Your stroke riddled body unable to move
As I fell to the floor, cradling you in my arms,
You couldn't respond and I saw fear in your eyes...
We held you for almost two hours
Crying and petting you...
Lost, unable to help...
Ready to take you on your last ride...
The vet was ready...
Was it the love?
Were the prayers heard?
You stood on your own and walked to the door...
Tears coming again...this time of joy
Your stroke riddled body felt life again...
I do not know if the movie is true
Will you play in the fields of heaven?
Time will tell...
Tonight you are in your home
Loved the same as you have always loved us
Unconditionally

*This is for my dog Chance, who had a massive stroke this morning. Somehow he pulled out of it with minimal effect

Awww that is so sad Bill. I hope your dog is ok. I love dogs, and I would be terrified and upset if that were to happen. A very nice write. Beautiful.
