My first sweet 16
Is not my own
For it is my friend's
For who I have known

She is beautiful; amazing
A wonderful girl
She's been through so much
Known too much of this world

She's tried all the releasing
Of the pain she has known
But it didn't work
She felt trapped and alone

She tried to become
More that she was
She tried to hide the pain
That the people had caused

She celebrates her party
And as I watch her there
I thank God that her life
