Excuse me, mister

by Melissa   Mar 2, 2006

Excuse me, mister
would you sell me
a moment of your time?
I'd like to buy your voice
for just an hour or so.
I swear I won't sing
the Lord's name in vain
or burn your lips
with the wrong end
of my words.
I only want to read
a little poetry
through foreign tongue.
Won't your breathe
screaming stanza's
with unfamiliarity?
Engage my ears
to your parting lips.
I'd like to hear the tone
of my soul,
before I go deaf
by the constant chatter
of my typewriter
singing the unwanted blues.
Excuse me, mister
Is your capability on sale?
I'd like to buy eyes
that haven't given birth
to the story of me.
So what do you say
could I buy a little bit
of your time, today?

This piece just blows me away. I've never read anything like it, just wow! I absolutely love these lines:

    "I'd like to buy eyes
    that haven't given birth
    to the story of me."
