Let it Ride

by Bill Turner   Mar 10, 2006

Sitting at the final table playing the hand of my life
Judgment day the same as I have lived
Peeking at my cards I let it all ride one last time
Before the turn of the card revealing my fate
I picked up the calendar checking the date

Wide awake, saved by the alarm clock bell
I do not want to know when my time will pass
We all have an expiration date...I just do not need to know
Comforting to know that I died as I live, letting it ride
Somehow that bit of information fills my chest with pride

If I could live my life over again, nothing would I change
Mistakes have been my way of life, learning along the way
All I have done, things I have seen, shaping me
I will live my life as I always have, full throttle
Sometimes wobbly, as I look through an empty bottle

Those of you that have been hurt along the way
I tried to warn you about the wreckage in my life
No games did I play, wearing my heart on my sleeve
Being played the fool several times, hardening my heart
At my ripe old age making a new and glorious start

What a wonderful adventure my life has been
My friends come write a stanza or two with me
Laughing and crying as we tell our tales
I am saving the best for a wonderful lady
Waiting for me as my life got dark and shady

Blessed am I that she waited for us
The greatest lines are left for she and I
Writing the poem of our life as we love
Head on her shoulder, hand in mine, love in our eyes
Finding each other again after all this time no surprise

Oh I really liked this one. It really made me take a look at my own life and really think. Someof your versus could even describe me.

If I could live my life over again, nothing would I change
Mistakes have been my way of life, learning along the way
All I have done, things I have seen, shaping me
I will live my life as I always have, full throttle
Sometimes wobbly, as I look through an empty bottle

Those lines were my absolute favorite and I feel the same way. At times when we are facing difficult challenges or periods in our lives we wish we could change them but looking back I realize that I would not want to change anything for all in the past has made me who I am today. 5/5 Another awesome read from your list of poems!
