Nightly Phone Call

by Timothy S   Mar 21, 2006

The silence of the night brings quivers under my skin
My heart jumps with excitement as I'm here once again
Holding it closely to my ear as I wait for the ritual to begin
Breathing deeper with each short spurt of happiness
A mere smile at the simple thought of hearing the words
Time apart now seems only a short while
Thinking, each minute, hour, was worth it
Pounding each digit with it's gentle purpose
Sending the carrier off with it's nightly burden
I sit and smile and await the reply
But silence carries on, but I no longer ask why
The smile fades, buried in my face
But I still leave a message every night
In hopes of bringing a simple smile, to my "lover's" face
