In the hallway

by Samantha Compton   Mar 22, 2006

A droning voice
Inside my ear
Saying the words
I'm supposed to hear.
The ringing echos
Through the room
As students flood
Out in their gloom.
They're swallowed up
By a huge sea
Of friends who tell them
Who they'll be.
Their homework pressing
On their minds,
They yearn to relieve
The stress they find.
Faces pass
Before my eyes
Unaware of the
Fragility of time.
Wandering minds
And fragile souls
Subconsciously searching
For something much more.
I see a boy
And catch his eye,
Wondering if he knows
That this isn't all to life.
