What has Come of This World

Mom screams into the phone
To a daddy far away
Kids don't understand
Why it's like this every day

I love you is said
Hardly it is meant
They hear I hate you
As she angrily vents

What's wrong with the world today
Families are falling apart
Torn between a mother and father
Is a child's heart

The lonely child
Who sleeps around
Wanting to be loved
Waiting to be found

They say they care
So she lets them in
Not knowing it was all a lie
Or when it will end

Whats wrong with the world today
People scared and lonely
With no one to care
They have their soul only

Children are high
While adults are wasted
No one to look up too
Lives are cut but none are pasted

Parents too oblivious
To the world outside
Kids with no supervision
To their own rules they abide

What's wrong with the world today
Kids get stoned to be high
Parents drink away pain
When all needed is a good cry

You have to smile
To keep from crying
You have to keep going
To keep from dying

You have to laugh
You have to love
One day you'll be happy
Like the angels above

Get through you're life
One day at a time
And soon you will be
Someone's shrine

What's wrong with the world today
Is all the love has disappeared
All the happiness and joys
Have been eternally turned to tears

    It was long, but that was the beauty of the poem, it had so much emotional, so much pain and sadness that it needed the length to fit it all in. I loved it.

    I Think Its Sad That Alot Of Kids Today Are Parentless...Speaking As Someone Who Lost Their Dad As An Infant I Know How Hard It Is Without a Dad...Makes It Easier To Do Wrong...And Thats Just Not Good...5/5xoxo-Nikki-xoxo

    Wow.. I really love this and it puts in perspective what is going on in the world these days. My favorite stanza was:
    You have to smile
    To keep from crying
    You have to keep going
    To keep from dying
    I loved that one, it just kind of stuck to me. You did a great job on this! 5/5

    I love this poem... it just really touched my heart and soul... in some parts its true... disfunctional familys... i guess maybe you got the idea for this poem from your own family... a friends family... or a family you heard about before. The world is going down... down... and pitifully fast... but the love is still there... maybe its slowly disapearing.. i dont know... and love hurts... but its definately THERE. anyways great write 5/5/5/5 -Jen-
