It was Me

My best friend died today
It all came so quickly
The car shoved violently into hers
As if there was no other way

There she lay in her casket
Black wardrobes everywhere, worn
Tissues passed down the rows
People thumbing her funeral pamphlet

Speakers stood before everyone
As tears silently slid down cheeks
How could she really be gone?
Her life far too short to be done

I remembered her being the only friend
Who reached for my hand when I was lost
Who comforted my cries when I was sad
Now she's never coming back again

I got up to sing my sad song
One we had written together
No one looked up or even listened
Something seemed terribly wrong

All of a sudden my body lifted off the ground
I heard a voice inside me say
"Now you've seen what its like after death"
I knew I was now heaven bound

How could this possibly be?
I looked down in the casket
Sure enough, lying there
Was my own best friend..

...It was me.

    Haunting ladies, very well penned and haunting - seriously a great write that has me fairly emotional. Brought back some horrible memories of a girlfriend I lost in a car accident a few years ago, it was actually two friends but one I was very close to...its horrible what tragedy can do to ones life and those people who are part of their life...I enjoyed this piece but the tears cannot help but fall ...
