School Through The Slow Child's P.O.V. 10/15

by Ashleigh Skye   May 4, 2006

School has never been easy,
a battle field of wills,
teachers forcing what they think is right,
while keeping me hopped up on pills.

Isolated by my peers,
cause I don't think and act like them,
and because I learn differently,
my being they condemn.

They don't know I was in an accident,
and from it I almost died,
my sister was put in the hospital,
where her condition started to slide.

My mom says the angels took her,
where she won't feel any pain,
but no one at school knows this,
they just see what's off in my brain.

When I try to express my emotions,
it comes out in a chaotic mess,
the message gets lost along the way,
which just adds to my stress.

I've seen the other children laugh at me,
when things aren't going right,
and I've heard them say some nasty things,
about how I shouldn't see daylight.

But I'm living for my sister,
since she can't be here today,
so I'll ignore anything,
that they have to say.

So with a little smile,
I'll walk down the crowded hall,
ignoring all the whispers,
standing alone and tall.

Oh Hayley, this brought tears to my eyes...so heartbreaking.
I admire the strength it takes to write something like this, it's eye opening and the world would be a better place if everyone took the time to show tolerance and embrace everyone no matter what.
    I adore this stanza:

"When I try to express my emotions,
it comes out in a chaotic mess,
the message gets lost along the way,
which just adds to my stress."

So well written! Take care and keep it up~Holly
