Through the Eyes of a Child

by Lu   May 8, 2006

Mother is this the way the world was meant to be
the passion for life so forgotten by many
love turned to hatred before our very eyes
as we stand by and watch the smiles of children
disappear like clouds of smoke, never asking
never caring the answer to where the smiles have gone

what has happened to the freedom of the children
to the times when pedophiles where few
and love they neighbor meant something
it seems like an eternity ago we heard the word "slave"
yet the children of the cocoa farms in the land
of the forgotten countries still have no liberty

yet we turn our heads and shut our eyes
living in our own state of tranquility, choosing
to ignore things that don't affect our personal lives
blaming it upon destiny, thinking we are helpless
to even try and change things that were meant to be
yet Mother wouldn't it be fantastic if we would even try

Maybe have could try instead of would try in your final sentence but other than that, this poem was so deep. A narrative that actually painted a realistic haunting picture of what it must be like to see a child's point of view on life. Your poems are usually strong so please keep writing.

I thought it was a great representation of the world through a childs eyes. i especially like the way this child seemed so innocent and pure. this feeling was enhanced by the fact he was speaking to his mother. the child, although seems innocent and pure, also seems very wise to the ways of the world. a good piece of work.
