Sorrowful Goodbye

by Hilary   Jun 6, 2006

Can I reach out far enough to Heaven,
To hold you one more time?
To tell you that I love you,
To let you wipe the tears from my eyes.
To get answers to the questions,
That are floating in our minds.
Unfinished, confusing, complications,
That you left behind.
Was this somehow my fault?
Should I have held on more?
Told you not to go again?
Locked you behind the door?
Can you watch me now from Heaven?
Do you know I miss you so?
That I wish that you were here now -
It wasn't your time to go!
The years ahead won’t be the same,
Without you by my side.
I will try to continue on, dear friend,
Facing life's moments with pride.
Pride that I had you,
In my life and in my heart...
You'll still stand beside me,
Even though we are apart.
I won't let this world forget you;
Your memory shall continue on...
Your picture will remain on my wall,
Even though you're gone.
I pray that you'll protect me,
In all my years ahead...
That you'll be the little push I need,
To get out of bed.
The tears will keep on pouring,
As I reach up to the sky...
Hoping that you see me and
Hear me whisper my sorrowful goodbye.
