Golden Tears

by Carmen   Jun 9, 2006

She sat down at her Thanksgiving meal, with family all around,
As her friendly golden retriever lay moping on the ground.
She looked at her dog and tilted her head, as she sneaked her a piece of warm bread.

The dog turned away, much unlike her usual ways, and the girl noticed her dog's face was turning quite gray.
The girl sadly went back to eating her meal, and tried hiding the sadness she was starting to feel.

Twas December, the same year, when the dog was still feeling blue, so the family took her to the vets to see what they could do. They said she had auto immune, and gave her some pills. The girl's mother was shocked to see the bills.

The pills did not help, not one little bit, and the family watched over the sick dog, feeling like shit. Something was wrong, and it was making them all sad, so they lifted her into the car and tried once again.

The mother walked the dog in, as the girl waited in the car. She busied herself to avoid what was going to be a permanent scar. More than an hour passed as the girl began to shake. She had a bad feeling her heart was going to break.

Finally, they came back out, and the mother settled in without a word. The girl looked her in the eye to see that her vision was blurred.
"Well?" said the girl, "What's the news?" But deep down, she knew that this battle, she would loose.

When the mother began to tear up, she said the dog was going to have to be put down, and the girl squeezed her eyes shut with a big frown. Wake up, wake up, she said inside, but she knew it was real from all the tears she cried.

To this day, the girl still cries at night, missing her dog, and the sparkle in her eyes. In several years, the girl will still be crying golden tears. How do I know this? Well, you see, the girl who has suffered from her dog's loss is me.
