Dragon Shadow

by RainbowSlider   Jun 27, 2006

Deep in the night when the world retreats.
The dragon goes to his cave to eat treats.
His ravenous craving echoes the cavern
while hearing the people at the tavern.

His mate was stabbed by a valiant knight.
He eats alone greedily by foxfire light.
Around him he admires his valuable lore;
Emeralds, sapphires and rubies galore.

The bats hang above him in the ceiling.
Rats scurry the cave to him unappealing.
Bones and skeletons are his friends
ever reminding him of his certain end.

He lives in a dim world through flight.
Sometimes he circles the darken night.
The moon reminds him of a nobler age
when dragons filled the sky's stage.

With his breath he roars in flames.
To him all lifeforms are fair game.
A monster, predator and victim of fate
he mourns but joys over his lost mate.
