They

by Ruthie   Jun 30, 2006

They told me I was young
But I'd soon be older
And when I was
I'd somehow be bolder

They said don't worry
Just smile and live
When you're bigger
You'll have more to give

They said be patient
One day you'll understand
Cause all your dreams
Are held in our hands

They told me I was sweet
And one day I'd be stronger
I'd be able to choose
Just wait a bit longer.

They promised I'd be whole
Beautiful and happy
I'd fall in love
Romance is never sappy

So what happened?
Where's my freedom
Cause all I see
Is where I come from

So where'd it go?
The hopes they twirled
Cause all I see
A broken, lost world.

Teach me to see
I want to know
What's expected of me
And where to go

Cause standing still
And melting away
Isn't somewhere
I'd like to stay

I'm seeking answers
To this hole in me
no matter what they say
It's not what I'm meant to be.

This poem is so good. I like how you kept on saying "They this, they that" as if they did everything for you, and prepared you for everything, and then you were faced with something they didn't..

    Nice job.
