A Princess Died

by Sarah Ann   Jul 8, 2006

Tiny fingers, gorgeous face
Puffy cheeks, rosy in place
Beautiful down in your heart
Although your light's falling apart

Grasping my hand, awake in fear
Do not cry, stay with me here!
I glance at you, and then look away
Comforting words I cannot say

Doctors run, nervous and rushed
Your eyes are tearful, lips are hushed
I'm holding you, please don't go
The world I know will miss you so

They scream at me, needing my help
I let go quickly and you yelp
Your little body quivers once more
Families cry now near the door

We tried so hard to make you stay
Tried hard but you just slipped away
As seconds passed I held you close
And you whispered "I'll miss you the most"

Your green eyes held your dying light
Blonde hair was tangled in the night
Finger grips were no longer strong
You let go and it was all so wrong

With painful tears all eyes were brimmed
The room felt murky, dark and dim
I ran outside, shaking in pain
My heart filled with the deepest shame

A once young girl, older than three
Held on to her dear life for me
But now she's gone, although we tried
And in my arms a princess died

-This is an incident that happened yesterday as I worked in a hospital. We couldn't save the poor girl. I am so heartbroken and filled with shame-

Absolutely amazing poem! It's very sad and tragic... You've written it so strongly... One best poem I've read in the recent times.

Wow, a tear is rolling down my cheak, that was extremely heart wrenching and painful to read. But it was so beautiful. Your words gave it so much grace and it just flowed. The young girl is truely lucky to have someone like you remeber her and not just consider her another one that slipped away. She would be honored! and i hope you realize you tried your best but sometimes things just happen for a reason.

    Much love
