She walked the highway

by Chelsey   Jul 13, 2006

She was just fifteen years old
Brunette hair, long legs, green eyes
Had just about enough of the world
It was time to give them all a surprise

She pulled on some muddy boots
Had a halter top on her chest
She let her hair blow into the wind
She wasn’t over-exposing anything in the way she dressed

She started down Haverhill Drive
Holding a big red sign
Feeling the rays hit her back
From the hot 90 degree sunshine

She said “I’m proud to be an American
I hold this flag with pride
I’m thankful for our freedom
And for all those people who’ve died”

She knew she would be honked at
She knew cars would swerve out around her
But this girl was determined to walk the highway
In hopes of saving some souls of the future

She had a flashlight in the other hand
She planned to walk there all night
She had faith in God to keep her safe
While she tried to stop every car in sight

She pulled a couple of them over
One man screamed “get the heck out of the road”
They said bigger trucks drive on here
And they carry big wide loads

She said a simple “I know sir”
And explained to him, her plan
Of how she wants people to walk the highway with her
Sticking up for God and his land

Why this old man was very touched
He pulled over to the side
He said, “you don’t know how much that touched me
In the war my own son died”

So they walked the highway together
Eventually got 50 more out of their cars
They walked so many miles on the highway
And hit up all the clubs and bars

When the news interviewed her on the streets
They asked, “young lady what are you doing?”
She said, “Trying to make the elders of the world
Realize how many young kids their losing”

She gathered the people who stayed with her
Told them to get on their knees and pray
“When two or three or gathered”, she said
“Gods in their presence that day”

She knew the Lord heard their cries
And was proud of what she had done
Now all this girl had left to do
Was get some of the youths hearts won

*I really did think about doing this...I just knew no one would let me because of how dangerous that would be, but I was just being creative and thinking of a way to wake some people up and show them how bad this world is turning..it honestly turned out nothing like I planned...but I still like it! Thanks for reading!*

Beautiful poem Chels. It sent a powerful message, I too wish I could do something like that, but in today's society some people could do some pretty bad things to you, which is also wrong. You are a great girl and a great messanger of God, this poem was amazing, 5/5, it was great. Beautiful stanza, great story-line, it was lovely, just lovely :)
