Winning Yet Losing

by Thoughtless Consideration   Jul 25, 2006

I'm hiding behind
These distant brown eyes.
I'm lost behind
A strand of dark hair.
I'm shuddering
Behind your icy glare.

I'm stumbling along
This forest path,
Trying vainly to escape
The cruel aftermath.
Memories are fresh in my mind.
Memories are making me blind.

I block out the thoughts
But they break down
The weak
Mental wall.
I cower behind trembling fingers.
I try not to hear my terrified whisper.

And the sun is so bright,
All smiley and light.
The heat tapdances across my skin
As I force myself
To continue-
Just this once, I must win.

I push aside my fear,
I think about making a feat.
I breath deeply,
I start to relax
As I taste the
Familiar taste
Of bittersweet defeat.

And in the world,
It seems like there is nothing
Else,
When I play
This mental game
I have named:
Me vs Myself.
