Heaven couldn't wait

by lexie   Aug 1, 2006

Darling you've gotta hold on,
you can make it through,
you have to make it through,
crying in my arms tonight,
i hold your weak limbs,
don't give up on me,
body shaking,
can't gain composure,
make this all just go away,
tears fall from your blue eyes,
don't worry,i wont leave,
you lay there so cold and frail,
and me so unknowing and mistaken,
all i can do is hold your body,
your slipping away,your slipping away,
i know your in so much pain,
and i wish there was something i could do,
if there was only something i could do,
the sirens are sounding,
do you hear that,
do you hear them coming,
they're coming for you baby,
coming to save you,
the blood is streaming,
down your neck,
its spreading through your shirt,
its spilling onto me,
tears are falling down your face,
you grab my arm,and pull me close,
you gain enough strength to speak,
"I love you.I always will.I just wish that heaven could wait."
and then with one last breath you left me,
i held your body,
as you entered those heavenly gates,
i sure do hope its beautiful,
you died that night in a field of flowers,
on the side of a country road,
just because we were careless and had to much to drink,
i will always remember what you told me then,
and darling i want you to know,
what i never got to say,
"I love you and I always will.I just wish that heaven could wait."

Sweet and sad -- it almost made me cry! Haunting a beautiful piece, really. This is a very strong poem and I'd encourage you to look into publishing it, except it seems quite personal. DEFINITELY a 5/5, easily.
