Knights in fairy tale armor

by Melissa S. Masucci   Aug 21, 2006

Little girls grow up
listening to fairy tales
of damsels in distress
and men with strong horses
that come to their rescue.

Little girls grow up
waiting for their Prince Charmings
to woo them and sweep them off their feet,
knights in shining armor to save them
from the evils of the world.

Little girls grow up
into women who don't believe
that there are men in the world
following the romantic ideals
of a time remaining only in fairy tales.

Little girls grow up
repeating the same stories
to their own little girls,
hoping a fairy tale ending comes
to their child, since it didn't for them.

Little girls grow up
but they never forget,
always waiting for love's first kiss.
This once little girl isn't waiting
for her knight in shining armor.

Mine has already arrived.

This is a good poem that is killed by the last line.

You have the hope, the expectation, the disappointment then the hope for another and then to spite all of that you say you have your knight anyway. It doesn't make sense.

The rest of the poem is really quite clever though.

Aww that was a sweet poem, and you are very lucky you have found your Knight in Shining Armor. It seems like a little hypocritical when they no longer believe and tell their kids. Heh, but I'm sure the ones that fall in love tell the better story. Really nice piece. For some reason it reminded me of Shrek :P
