Poisoning Tomorrow, Killing Today

Poisoning Tomorrow, Killing Today

Hopes shrouded by loneliness,
Left to burn on the coals of tomorrow,
Scorched by my doubt,
Imprisoned in my heart of stone,
Which was frozen solid by my self-awareness...

Fears, overbearing,
Choking on the soot inside my throat,
There from the words I burned into your head, which set my lungs aflame,
All the selfish thoughts, rants and raves,
They poisoned tomorrow, after killing today.

Droned out by the sacrificial drums,
You slit my throat on the altar,
Blood paid, your life completely stained,
We let poison leak in through the cracks,
And the dam just could not hold,
Giving way with a groan, having realized all was lost...

We didn\'t realize what we\'d done,
Destroyed by our desires,
We doomed not only ourselves,
But damned the mourners to cry on our graves each day,
They placed black roses on our remains,
Before they buried us in our own hate.

When they found our bodies, our hearts were gone,
Vanished and sent to an unmarked place,
Stabbed out by the daggers of self-pity,
Wed not wanted to die slowly
So we just cast them away...
Keeping them hidden from the world,
Our souls then condemned to pointlessly exist,
As these hollowed out shells with no meaning,
Only waiting to bleed our final tears and end,
A countdown to my self-apocalypse,
Which is fueled by my own selfish pride....

Not wanting to admit we were wrong,
So we just ended with that and moved on...
Poisoning tomorrow, and killing today,
We might have been something, but I guess we\'ll never know
Because we\'re separated by this dying tree,
Walking farther away from our problem,
No attempts to rekindle the life of what was...

In ourselves we drowned our memories,
Thinking nothing of them in time,
Lost in the seas of despair
Where we send the recollections of what we wish weren\'t true...

We grow old, and die alone,
Love lost in a single argument,
If we\'d worked it out, I wonder,
What might we have shared between us two?
