Only for a Second

by Dani   Sep 16, 2006

He stared at her, but only for a second
She cried out in pain
And slid a blade across her wrist
She watched the blood trickle,
And listened to the boy cry.
He shed tears of fear, tears of emptiness
He sat down next to her and held her in his arms,
Applying pressure to her self inflicted wounds.
He left her, but only for a second,
To call for some help that was so desperately needed
She wiped away the tears that ran down her face.
When he came back, he told her not to cry
He told her that he was there for her,
And to not be afraid.
She fought through the pain,
Squeezing his hands tight
Until she couldn't squeeze any longer.
She became weaker, unable to open her eyes
He knew it was the time she'd been waiting for
To end all of this mess, once and for all.
She left him, for longer than a second
He gave her a soft kiss on her lips
And whispered in her ear "I love you, goodbye"

As someone who has been a cutter, that was really touching. Although just a poem, it's good to know that she was cared for so much in her last seconds of life.
